Intranasal drug delivery provides a convenient and non-invasive method of drug delivery with many patient benefits. There has been increasing interest in nasal administration for CNS-targeted compounds and emergency medications with compounds such as naloxone and midazolam, and esketamine. Innovation and improvement of CNS disease treatments are targeting the olfactory region in the upper nasal cavity to deliver drugs to the brain.
While there are challenges to access its full potential, the future of nose to brain delivery is promising with many clinical projects in development.
This webinar will review some of the benefits and challenges of this route of administration, including bypassing the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to deliver therapeutic agents for disorders of the brain and the CNS therapies. We will also review the factors influencing device design, the trends shaping formulation development, the advantages of drug reformulations, and a review of recent clinical research in this area.
