Driven by rapidly ageing global population, cases for ophthalmic injection treatment are growing. One of the major applications of ophthalmic injection is the treatment of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) for which anti-VEGF drugs are periodically administered by intravitreal injection. However, there are known challenges in intravitreal injection such as accurate delivery of the micro dose as low as 50 microliter or minimizing particles and silicone oil to be injected to patients because it can remain in the eye and accumulated after multiple treatments (so-called “floaters”).
With extensive knowledge and experience with polymer syringe manufacturing and coating technology, as well as deep understanding of end-users through a formative human factor study, Terumo has developed PLAJEXTM 0.5mL Luer Lock Silicone Oil-Free to address these challenges. The innovative syringe system provides a silicone oil-free solution taking advantage of our proprietary i-coatingTM technology applied on the plunger stopper, and the syringe system is designed for high dose accuracy, low subvisible particles, and keeping sensitive drugs stable.
