Whilst many airports in the UK have some form of forecourt control by barrier it is a solution that struggles to cope with volumes of customers at peak times causing tailbacks and operational issues of congestion. It is a poor first or last impression of the airport journey if the traveller encounters congestion to get through the barrier made worse by a dispute about the amount being charged.
In the presentation we will show the customers journey through the forecourt to either drop off or pick up their passengers and how the different user groups that may be allowed free passage can be managed and communicated to. The options for customers to pay without the charge either ahead or after their journey. Most importantly there will be no congestion or disruption to their trip.
This technology can also be applied to Clean Air Zones or for road toll schemes or be used for controlling passenger drop off areas at busy railway stations.
The Terminal Drop Off Scheme at Heathrow was launched in collaboration with various partners and Heathrow City Council. APCOA was instrumental in providing the back office technology and procedures for administration and enforcement
