In the world of respiratory lung delivery, especially in Dry Powder Inhalers the biggest challenge is to increase the fraction of drug that reaches the lung. Most of the advancements that have been described in the literature are focusing on the formulation part and less of a focus is put on the development of new DPI devices. Furthermore the properties of the powder that the device has to disperse, are becoming more challenging (engineered formulations with high cohesion and low bulk density). Thus the ideal device has to cope with a bigger variety of different formulations and deliver the medication reproducibly, effectively, precisely and for the patient comfortably.
During our presentation we want to outline the current capsule-based dry powder inhaler landscape and what factors needed to be considered to choose/develop the “right inhaler”. With a focus on the main characteristics for capsule -based DPIs two different inhalers are presented to find the right solution for different purposes. In this webinar we will discuss the development of a capsule-based DPI Device to enable efficient delivery of traditional carrier-based formulations as well as more advanced formulations containing engineered particles. Case studies will be presented focused on the interaction of powder formulation type and aerosol performance in different capsule-based devices. If you are interested in how engineering excellence can deliver precise solutions for efficient and economical devices to meet the different challenges in powder formulations.
