Paul Staples
Global Head of Banking as a Service and Embedded Finance Proposition, HSBC

Paul Staples has had a 20-year career in Banking and has had a parallel career founding, building and scaling tech and business platforms across multiple industries. Paul is currently the Global Head of Banking as a Service and Embedded Finance Proposition for HSBC.

He's charged with building and scaling the business through solving complex banking needs directly where the consumer needs them.

Prior to this Paul was the Global Head of Public Sector for HSBC where he built an Ai solution to help governments and central banks predict transaction failures.

Paul has also founded several technology companies over the years, from Oil&Gas Market places in the dot.com days and Carbon depository solutions, to more recently building a SaaS platform that solves the logistics complexity for Ports and Construction sites and an Ai solution that predicts demand for any product at any location.

Mark Mullen
CEO, Atom Bank

Mark Mullen is a career marketer and banker with more than 30 years of experience working in financial services, including spells in consumer finance, asset finance and leasing and retail banking. He was the Head of Marketing for HSBC in the UK and thereafter Regional Head of Marketing for HSBC MENA. He was also CMO at first direct, the UK’s leading direct bank, before taking over as CEO in 2011. He resigned from first direct in 2014 to co-found Atom Bank plc.

He was educated in Ireland, has a degree in history at Trinity College Dublin and an MBA from Warwick Business School and he’s a member of the Technology Strategy Group with Innovate Finance.

Janine Hirt is the CEO of Innovate Finance (IF), the industry body representing the world-leading UK FinTech sector. Having joined the founding IF leadership team in 2015 first as Head of Membership then Ecosystem Director, she moved into the COO role in 2017 before stepping up to lead the organisation in 2021.

Janine is passionate about driving transformation to create a more democratic, transparent and inclusive financial services sector for all.

Her professional career has been marked by roles that sit at the intersection of policy, international relations, and industry, including senior positions at Chatham House, (the Royal Institution of International Affairs) and the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce.

Janine received her BA Magna Cum Laude from Boston College, JYA at Oxford University, and her MSc from the London School of Economics. Janine is an American, British, Swiss and German national who calls London and NYC home.
